Services and websites are increasingly offering login without a password. The new technology is called Passkeys and is particularly convenient. The special feature: You don't have to remember long passwords because authentication is based on a cryptographic process. To do this, two digital keys are generated that interact with each other: one is held by you, the second by the service provider. Each time you log in, tasks are created that can only be solved with your secret key. This way it can be clearly proven that you are logged in. As the personal user name and password are no longer required, your account is also particularly well protected against phishing attacks.
Stefan Becker, Head of the Cyber Security for Business Division at the BSI, explains clearly how Passkeys works and why the process makes life particularly difficult for cyber criminals. The discussion will be hosted by the tried-and-tested team of presenters Ute Lange and Michael Münz.
