COVID-19 pandemic. Stay healthy!
Staying healthy during the coronavirus pandemic. This is how it works.
The World Health Organization (WHO) gives the following advice to stay healthy during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic:
Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly
It is best to rub your hands thoroughly with an alcohol-based product. It is even better to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This practice kills and removes viruses that may be on your hands. A short guide here: How to wash your hands properly (FAZ).
Adhere to social distancing
Keep at least 1 meter distance between yourself and anyone who coughs or sneezes. When someone coughs or sneezes, they spray small droplets from their nose or mouth that may contain viruses.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
Our hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can then enter your body.
Practice good respiratory hygiene
Make sure that you and the people around you follow good respiratory hygiene. This means that you should cover your mouth and nose with your elbow when you cough or sneeze. Of course, it is better if you cough or sneeze directly into a handkerchief. You should dispose of this handkerchief immediately afterwards and clean your hands as described above.
If you have a fever, cough and breathing difficulties, seek medical help at an early stage
Stay at home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and breathing difficulties, consult a doctor. However, this does not mean that you should physically go to the doctor immediately. Call your doctor in advance. Also follow the instructions of your local health authority, as they have the most up-to-date information on the situation in your region.
Stay up to date and follow the advice of your doctor and the health authorities
Follow the latest developments around COVID-19. The authorities have the most up-to-date information on the extent to which the coronavirus COVID-19 is spreading in your region. Therefore, these authorities are best placed to advise you on what people in your area should do to protect themselves and others.
No longer greet with a handshake
To avoid physical contact, greet your fellow human beings by waving, nodding your head or even bowing.
