How does Wi-Fi coverage help?

Good connectivity is a prerequisite nowadays

The requirements for modern WLAN networks have increased significantly. Illumination is a crucial step for high-performance WLAN. Plan your network professionally with ASCEND certified survey engineers.

Acting professionally and future-oriented

Building owners and architects never leave the planning of water and electrical connections to the gut feeling of others. Act just as professionally, sustainably and future-oriented with your network structure - Ascend will be happy to support you with this project.

ASCEND relies on Ekahau software - our technicians are certified accordingly.

Planned illumination prevents unpleasant surprises

Well-planned WLAN coverage saves a lot of trouble. Dissatisfied tenants/users, expensive repairs and having to replace the hardware again are just some of the possible consequences.

This costs time, money and nerves. With planned WLAN coverage, there are no such nasty surprises, because you know the line capacity of your infrastructure and do not overload it.

What does WLAN coverage look like?

Signal strength

If you only pay attention to the signal strength, you are thinking too short

The signal strength is usually the most prominent measured value of a WLAN coverage. However, it should not be the sole focus.

Smooth WLAN communication is comparable to a conversation

Whether you understand the person you are talking to depends on more than just their volume. The environment also plays an important role. Next to a noisy building site, you can hardly hear each other, even if you are already shouting. The signal strength of the access point is also not the only decisive factor. How can this picture be applied to WLAN communication?

Here, too, it depends on existing disruptive factors in the environment. The signal-to-noise ratio is just as important as the number of access points in the same frequency range and the desired capacity.

Selecting the right access points - planning required

Not every WLAN coverage can be achieved with every access point. Some access points cannot handle certain user densities.

A simple example:

They want to equip a hall with WLAN and are expecting around 1000 people. All those present should be able to vote at the same time. The selected access points serve a maximum of 50 devices. Aha, you think. "Then I need at least 20 of them." Why isn't it that simple? The answer has to do with the channel overlap.

Channel overlap

In the 2.4 GHz range, only a maximum of 4 frequencies can be operated side by side without interference. This means that the access points interfere with each other at a certain point. The situation is better in the 5GHz range, as there are usually more frequencies available. As part of our WLAN coverage, we determine the optimum selection of access points and their positions for you.

Broadcast time usage

Only one client can transmit per channel. It takes time for data from different clients to be transferred. At some point, a channel or the airtime on this channel is exhausted. When planning, we take into account how high the capacity utilization will be. If the airtime usage comes close to 100%, the setup must be adjusted. For example, it may be necessary to select other channels or to use more or better access points. Our technicians weigh up all the pros and cons of possible adaptations to ensure that the network requirements are met.

WLAN coverage

Briefly defined

During a Wi-Fi scan, a technician measures the most important parameters of a Wi-Fi network with the aim of optimizing the network. The signal strength survey is of central importance. However, the measurement also allows sources of interference to be identified and the necessary access points to be planned. WLAN coverage is also used to test the reliability of a WLAN simulation or WLAN planning for new projects.
